As this book goes on I feel that it gets more interesting and strange at the same time. Strange as in things that get you thinking and questioning what will happen next or what is happening at that present moment in the book. Like how Sarah mentioned the phone call that Chick got at Roses' house. When I first read that part I thought it may be hallucinations of his dad and maybe his dad tried to get back in contact with Chick and his family when they were still young. But then I stopped and thought about it and wondered to myself that maybe it is a person who found Chick, in the bad condition that he is in, and is trying to help him or wake him up or something to that effect. So when I read the assigned pages for this week and the same "phone call person" came up again when he was leaving Roses' house I realized that it must just be an actual person in the real life trying to help him. Well it was my realization and the fact that it said that it was a police officer "on the phone" helped me to conclude that what I predicted was actually very similar and practically the same.
It also becomes more clear in the reading that Chicks mother cared for him a lot and all she wanted is what was best for him so he would have a good life and future and always stay safe. I am pretty sure that is why she did not want Chick to play baseball and leave college to do so. Chick said that this action broke his mothers heart and so maybe she knew that by Chick playing baseball it would maybe make him think that his father would come back to see him and that is why she said "Going back to something is harder than you think". I.E. possibly referring to his dad and why he never came back because it was too hard to face her and Chick and his sister. Also on page 146, when the police officers voice comes back and such, and Chicks mother says its up to him for what he wants to do, I think that is another way of saying its up to Chick is he wants to wake up or to die.
