I think it is weird how Chick is seeing, and is able to interact, with his mother. The first time he saw his mother, I thought he was just hallucinating, but now he is seeing her again, and is being made breakfast by her, hugging her, etc. I think this is too bizarre. I don't think this really happened. Either this is an episode of ABC's Resurrection, or Albom made this all up. Also, how would this entire how be filled with the stuff of his childhood???
Another thing about his mom is the chapters titled "Times I didn't stand up for my mother." I like these small chapters that Mitch somehow always fits in. I do not think, though, that the times Chick does these things are not that bad. He was a young kid in all of these chapters. When his Halloween costume got all wet, he had no one else to blame, but his mother, and it is a childish thing, acting as if it is the end of the world. Or the time his father was mad about the pasta being wrong and Chick just said what his father said. He didn't know what to say, he was in between an argument that he had no control over, and his dad would have been very angry if he had not said that it wasn't good. I do not think that he can blame himself when he was just a child, in his own small world.

I agree with the weirdness of the visions/projections he's seeing, and it made me think that maybe he actually did die in the car crash or when he fell from the water tower. Or at least pass out. Since everything thats happening is completely fantasy (especially the whole ghost-making-food thing), it seems that the only explanation is some kind of last-moment vision. People have said they've seen their lives flash before them when they undergo a near-death experience, so this could be him retreating mentally to some safe place. Or, it could actually be happening and this is the first documented zombie appearance.

I also agree with you guys! It is a bit odd to imagine this actually happening, since most of the events deal with seeing and interacting with the dead. Shannon, I agree with what you’re saying since Chick was only a child, he didn't fully understand the extent of what he was saying, and based his judgment on what appeared on the surface. I’m sure we’ve all said things as children (and even now) we obviously didn't mean, and blew things way of context, because we weren’t familiar with the situation. I think the chapters add a lot of interest to the story, and provide insight on the little moments Chick had with his mom.

This is what I believed from the moment Chick's mother was introduced. The same as you guys I believe that he is hallucinating and creating this story inside of his mind from the impact of the accident because of the way the car crush was described it didn't seem like it was a small one as the other person was killed in it and I don't think Chick would heal and feel better just like that. I also think that Chick has finally reached his peak and is remembering his childhood days and how much he wants to go back and be a better son to his mother because he couldn't before, and by creating this story in his mind it's helping his self conscience and himself recover emotionally. This is why I believe that chick is able to see his dead mother because he is finally at his peak with depression and just wants his mother to comfort him like she used to when he was a little boy .
